Symposium site NIC-IX will be held on the campus of CERN, the International Organization for Nuclear Research, located in Geneva, Switzerland. CERN is the world's largest particle physics center. Founded in 1954, the laboratory was one of Europe's first joint ventures and includes now 20 Member States. Additional information for the general public and for scientists can be found on the CERN website: www.cern.ch. The lectures, poster sessions, and all other scientific events related to NIC-IX will take place in the CERN main building. |
Topics
The topics covered at NIC-IX are:
- Cosmology and big bang nucleosynthesis |
|
Deadlines Abstract
submission
:
January
31, 2006 |
Scientific Program and Proceedings The symposium will
include oral presentations and poster sessions. The organization will
keep the “tradition” of NIC symposia and is planning only plenary
sessions for oral presentations as long as the number of contributions
will allow this scheme. The proceedings of the conference will be
published in the most timely manner. |
Call for contributions
The symposium program will
include invited talks, contributed talks, and poster presentations.
Contributions to NIC-IX (both for oral and poster presentations),
should be submitted within January
31, 2006. It is strongly recommended to use the NIC-IX
web
interface to submit abstract contributions.
The International Advisory Board and the Local Organizing Committee
will define the layout of the program and the list of invited speakers.
Registration
All participants to NIC-IX must register through the
NIC-IX web interface.
The deadline for registration is May
1, 2006. For the registration within this date, the fee
will be 400 CHF (1 CHF = 0.65
EUR in November 2005). For late registrations (after May 1, 2006) , the
fee will be 450 CHF. The fee
will include: a printed copy of the Conference Proceedings,
the Conference banquet and cruise on the "Lac Léman" (lake of Geneva)
on the evening of June 29, the transportation for excursion to the
Jura mountain or a visit of Geneva old town, the NIC-IX reception, and
all coffee-break
buffets.
Travel to CERN and VISA information
General information on "How to get to CERN" for traveling are available from the main CERN webpage. NIC-IX will take place on the CERN Swiss side. Participants
needing
visa to enter Switzerland are invited to consult
the CERN web page for information. However, please note that CERN is
located both in Switzerland
and France. In case participants intend to join technical visits at
CERN, or
their companion to join some of the excursions, they may need to
apply for a visa for both countries. The prerequisite
to obtaining such visa is a valid national passport - please check its
expiration date! |
Hotels and accommodations
NIC-IX participants should arrange the hotel reservation on their own. For early booking, a list of hotels in the CERN area (both in Switzerland and in France) is provided by the CERN housing service here. For participation in events taking place at CERN, some hotels offer a special rate (marked with "S.P." in the list). Reservations should be made mentioning the participation in a meeting at CERN. Please contact the NIC-IX secretariat if a proof of your participation is requested. Additional information on accommodations and transportation to/from CERN will be posted on the NIC-IX website.
A limited number of participants can be accommodated in the CERN
hostels. In order to be included in the list for this type of
accommodation, please specify the request in your registration form.
The deadline for submitting this request is, therefore, as for
registration, May 1, 2006.
However, please consider that some hotels in the area offer room rates
not much more expensive than the rates of the hostels.
Organization
NIC-IX is being jointly organized by an ISOLDE & n_TOF team. ISOLDE and n_TOF are the two main low energy nuclear physics facilities presently active at CERN. The organization of NIC-IX is based on an International Advisory Board and a Local Organizing Committee.

The NIC School The Symposium will be preceded by a school (The NIC School), in which all major topics of the symposium will be introduced by specialists. Students and young participants in NIC-IX, who are just entering the field of Nuclear Astrophysics, will have the opportunity to be tutored and prepared for the Symposium presentations and discussions. |
The school is sponsored by CERN. There will be a number of scholarships available which will cover accommodation and local expenses. Students are invited to apply on The NIC School website. The deadline for application is: March 31, 2006.
The school organizing committee is

University) - Chair

(Oslo/CERN-ISOLDE/MSU)
Satellite workshops
Two satellite workshops will take place on the days immediately preceding NIC-IX:
1. Nuclei in Globular Clusters
June 24 (Saturday), at the Astronomical Observatory of the University
of Geneva
Organizers:
G Meynet and C
Charbonnel
For additional information: obswww.unige.ch/nigc06
and nigc06@obs.unige.ch
2. Data needs in Nuclear Astrophysics
June 23-24 (Friday-Saturday), at the Department of Physics and
Astronomy, University of Basel
Organizers:
E Grebel, F Liebendörfer, T Rauscher, F-K Thielemann,
and in collaboration with JINA.
For information and registration to these workshops, please contact directly the organizers. Additional information will be posted on the NIC-IX website and related links.
